Equine Welfare

From the start, the ASPCA has put horses at the heart of what we do.

Today we’re aimed squarely at improving equine welfare through three priorities:

Helping horses find homes by popularizing horse adoption, keeping horses safe by establishing safety net programs and developing Equine Support Centers that provide horse owners with options for their equines, and preparing for and responding to cruelty and disasters that put horses in harm’s way.

Research suggests there are enough homes for all the country’s at-risk horses. It’s the ASPCA’s goal to help equine organizations find those homes.

Here we’ll share best practices for handling cruelty and neglect cases, including the appropriate processes for engaging law enforcement.

The ASPCA supports innovative programs aiding horse owners who are temporarily unable to care for their horses.
