This month ERAF would like to acknowledge Michele Gojkovich who is one of our many dedicated volunteers and our July 2017 Spotlight Team Member.
Michele has been at our barn for five years and dedicated countless hours to making ERAF’s mission possible by making the lives of our horses a good one. Michele is not a barn princess and is always willing to do whatever needs to be done. Those of you familiar with barn life understand that often that’s not pretty and not often fun.
Michele’s love of horses started at an early age but was unable to bring a horse into her life because of where she was living. She knew that at some point there would be a horse in her life. She says that when she and her husband decided to begin wintering in Florida she found ERAF’s website and knew that she had to play some role in helping ERAF save horses.
The more she was around the horses the more she knew that she was in the right place.
The thing that she enjoys most about being on the ERAF property is the one-on-one time she gets with the horses. Spending alone time in a paddock allows her to “connect” with a horse. That one-on-one time is not only therapeutic for the horses but for her as well.
She recalls a time with she was dealing with personal sadness in her life, and during a visit to the barn Nick played the role of therapist for her. She left the property that day feeling better because of her time with Nick. We suspect that he felt better for the experience as well.
Michele believes it’s now time to extend her understanding of horses and plans on taking riding lessons this year while she summers back home in Tennessee.
It’s hard to offer sufficient thanks to our volunteers without whom our ability to function would be almost impossible.
Acknowledging Michele’s contribution to ERAF not only acknowledges her important contribution to ERAF but also highlights the mission-critical role that our volunteers play. God Bless them all.
On behalf of all of our horses, staff, and Board of Directors we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Michele and let her know that she has made the world a better place by simply being the kind and caring person she is.
We’d also like to give a special shout out to Michele’s husband John who has been so helpful at our barn events. He’s an angel as well.
